Alimentación Desordenada Orientada a la Musculatura (ADOM): Una perspectiva actual

Resumen

La Alimentación Desordenada Orientada a la Musculatura (ADOM) se define como un conjunto de conductas alimentarias cuyo fin principal es el aumento de musculatura y la reducción de la grasa corporal, ya que esta última obstruye la visibilidad de los músculos. Este fenómeno ha recibido una creciente atención en los últimos años debido a su alta prevalencia en la población adolescente y en adultos jóvenes. En consecuencia, esta situación ha impulsado el estudio de los diversos factores que influyen en su desarrollo, lo cual ha permitido establecer que la ADOM posee una naturaleza multifactorial, producto de una compleja interacción entre componentes psicológicos, biológicos y sociales. Asimismo, debido a que la ADOM difiere de lo que tradicionalmente se conoce como alimentación desordenada, la cual se caracteriza por conductas alimentarias enfocadas en la pérdida de peso corporal, su clasificación como genuinamente desordenada genera un desafío diagnóstico significativo. Lo anterior se extiende a la comprensión de su posible evolución clínica, es decir, si representa una manifestación subclínica de los Trastornos de la Conducta Alimentaria (TCA) ya establecidos o si es más afín a un subtipo de trastorno dismórfico corporal, como la dismorfia muscular. Por consiguiente, el objetivo de esta perspectiva es abordar esta nueva variante de alimentación desordenada mediante una caracterización conceptual exhaustiva. Este análisis busca proporcionar evidencia que oriente la discusión clínica y científica hacia un entendimiento más preciso de su clasificación, sentando las bases para el estudio riguroso de su trayectoria evolutiva.
