Abstract

Research in translational nutrition allows the approach of nutritional and food problems in a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary manner from an integral patient or community-based perspective. The knowledge generated in basic sciences derived from preclinical and clinical studies is taken to the application with the development of intervention research projects aimed at improving practices and behaviors of the population to control the increase of chronic noncommunicable diseases, which are considered as priority health problems. Nevertheless, currently there is still a gap in the translation of results from clinical studies to the health care decision-making process in both clinical and community practice, which increases the need for communication between the scientific community and decision makers in public health policies for a comprehensive approach to prevention and treatment in terms of health and nutrition of the population. Nutrition cannot be understood if not from its application to the population needs. This article aims to be a framework for the improvement of the communication channels between key actors, and thus motivating the integral improvement of the sciences that impact nutrition.
