Relationship between the food security level and food environments in Ecatepec: COVID-19 lockdown effect

In this research, employing a series of surveys, the socioeconomic profile, food security level and food environment typology of several households in Ecatepec, Estado de Mexico, were determined during the COVID-19 lockdown to establish the relationship between this lockdown and the food security level. Most of the persons said have no problems to get foods to prepare their meals, although families in food insecurity frequently faced food local closings and lack of money, with no noticeable changes in food prices. Most of the persons were concerned about the effect of COVID-19 contingency on diet, buy only families in food insecurity status had to reduce their meals, besides reported the weight gain of a family member. Households in food insecurity situations faced greater difficulties with the food environment condition in some neighborhoods of Ecatepec de Morelos during the COVID-19 lockdown.
