Abstract

The consumption of ultraprocessed food in Mexico has increased in recent years, exceeding the recommended intake. This trend has contributed to health problems in the population, along with a low consumption of fruits and vegetables among children and adolescents. In this context, the infant stage is key for establishing eating habits that promote health throughout life. However, traditional strategies for modifying eating behaviors in school populations have shown limited effectiveness. In response to these challenges, guidelines have been established for the sale of food in school environments in Mexico. This document proposes gamification as an innovative pedagogical strategy with the potential to complement public policies for healthy school nutrition. Through the analysis of the current regulatory framework, the theoretical foundations of eating behavior, and empirical evidence, the discussion explores how gamification can foster meaningful learning, stimulate intrinsic motivation, and strengthen the adoption of adaptive eating behaviors in children and adolescents. Oriented by pedagogical objectives and adapted to the school context, gamification can be a valuable tool for transforming the school food environment into a healthier, more educational and participatory space.
