Abstract

Food production through crop cultivation, animal husbandry, and processing has significantly contributed to human civilization over the past 10,000 years. Agriculture plays a strategic role in improving food availability. In the coming decades, an increase in global food demand is forecasted, and there is uncertainty about the global agricultural sector's ability to meet this excessive demand. Therefore, tools are needed that enable the creation of improved production models tailored to the specific needs of each production process. Another current issue regarding food is the increase in food loss and waste, which generates negative environmental and economic impacts. This waste is produced throughout the production chain and by consumers, driven by factors including problems in agricultural production, logistics and transportation, processing, quality standards, and consumer behavior. To ensure sustainable production and consumption, the United Nations (UN) proposes with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 to ensure responsible production and consumption. This involves better management of food waste generated at each stage of production, thus ensuring the efficient use of resources and contributing to the food security of the population.
